I am a Product Definition Engineer at Onshape/ PTC. I have a Masters and undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Design from Brown University. I am passionate about Engineering and Design; I believe that the development of ideas are as important as the fabrication of the product. I also am well versed in the design process. I know how to research a need, understand the issue, create designs and iterate. I have been apply my fluid process to projects ranging from developing a Cloud-based CAD system, to biomechanical devices to art exhibits. Through my studies at Brown, I know about the science and math that goes into developing technologies, especially for people. I have a strong background in biomechanics; I understand how forces affect the body, specifically during exercise. I believe that I can use these skills to design new technologies and make a difference in this world.
At Brown, I have worked on many wide ranging design projects. I co-founded Koi Prosthetics; we are designing a low-cost, active knee prosthetic that is customizable to the amputee. We are working with another start-up at Brown to test our designs in Vietnam an get user feedback. In addition, I have been contracted by other students as well as the school for projects. Recently, my brother and I designed and built custom lifting platforms for Brown's main gym. We fit them to the weight racks, and built them to withstand constant stress of weight dropping on them.
I have a strong teaching background in design, too. I work at my university's design workshop as a monitor. I teach students how to use machines, from band saws to laser cutters to 3D printers, and how to rapid prototype. I help them troubleshoot design problems and determine ways to create a finished product. I am also a mentor for Freshman engineering students. I teach them an introduction to the design process and how to rapid prototype. I give them insight into the engineering major at Brown and advise them through their time as undergraduates.
At PTC, I am a Product Definition Engineer on the Onshape team. Onshape is the first purely cloud-based CAD system. My role is to design future workflows and systems of our software. Onshape releases every three weeks, so I am constantly pushing and refining areas of the product. I apply my user centered design approach with my engineering background to understand how our software is used and what context it is used for. I design new features that allow users to do new actions in an intuitive fashion. I am also always communicating with customers to understand their needs and how they use the product.
I really enjoy designing and engineering. They have been a large part of my undergraduate studies, and helped me become a strong problem solver. I hope to use my skills in the future, and hope you enjoy my work!
